Cultivation (terrarium parameters) Light: This moss can thrive in partial to full sunlight. This moss grows well in areas where shade mosses fail. Humidity: It prefers moderate humidity (40–70% RH). Temperature: Thrives at typical indoor temperatures (55–80 °F). Substrate: Prefers mineral-rich or well-drained media such as sand, fine gravel, crushed stone, or sandy loam. It will struggle with dense, constantly wet soils. Watering: Mist it with clean water, or bottom-water when dry to the touch. Prevent waterlogging at all times. Airflow: Give it enough good ventilation because stagnant, overly damp air can lead to mold or algae (as with all mosses). Growth Rate / Height: Slow to moderate spread. It typically grows 0.5–2 cm (¼–¾ in.) tall and stays low and compact. Planting and Handling When moss arrives, take it out of the plastic and keep it cool and lightly misted if you can’t plant it immediately. To plant the Sun moss, press the moss into contact with your chosen surface (rock, sandy soil, or gravel). The gentle pressure helps rhizoids attach. You may want to use Moss Tac to make sure it stays in one place. Water it when it is dry, but do not keep it constantly moist. Use Cases Often used in bright spots in terraria and vivaria, where shade mosses struggle. Accenting rocks, gravel paths, or open sandy areas. Perfect for transition zones between moist and drier microhabitats. Also used for outdoor containers, bonsai landscapes, or crevice gardens that need a sun-tolerant moss.
